The Transilvania University of Brașov (UTBV), established in 1971, is one of Romania’s leading higher education institutions. With a diverse academic portfolio encompassing engineering, sciences, arts, and humanities, UTBV is renowned for its commitment to research, innovation, and fostering academic excellence. The university’s R&D Institute stands at the forefront of these efforts, driving forward-looking research initiatives across various disciplines.

In the AI4AGRI project, UTBV plays a central role by establishing a dedicated research center focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in Earth Observation (EO) data for agriculture. This center aims to leverage advanced AI technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability in Romania and Europe. By addressing critical challenges such as obsolete technology, soil fragmentation, and desertification, UTBV is positioned to significantly contribute to the strategic autonomy and food security of Europe.

The University of Rome Tor Vergata, established in 1982, is a prominent public research institution in Italy. It is recognized for its dedication to academic excellence and innovative research across a broad spectrum of disciplines. The university is strategically located in Rome, which facilitates collaboration with various national and international academic and research entities.

In the context of the AI4AGRI project, the University of Rome Tor Vergata brings its expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and Earth Observation (EO) technologies. The university’s participation is pivotal in achieving the project’s goals of enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability through advanced AI applications. Leveraging the capabilities of its Computer Science and Engineering departments, Tor Vergata will contribute to the development of innovative AI methodologies and EO data analysis techniques tailored for agricultural purposes.

The Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (IRIT), established in 1990, is a leading French research institute dedicated to advancing computer science and its applications. As a partner in the AI4AGRI project, IRIT brings its extensive expertise in artificial intelligence and earth observation data to support the sustainable development of agriculture in Romania. The collaboration between IRIT and UTBV aims to leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.

IRIT’s role in the AI4AGRI project includes providing advanced research capabilities and facilitating knowledge transfer through strategic networking activities. By engaging in joint research initiatives, short-term staff exchanges, expert visits, and specialized training programs, IRIT contributes to the development of innovative AI-based solutions for agriculture. These efforts are designed to improve the excellence capacity and resources of UTBV, fostering the growth of young researchers and enhancing the overall research profile of the institution.
